Next Good Thing

Sometimes we wonder what God’s will is. For those times when He seems not so direct: God’s will is the next good thing. No need to wait around for all the answers.

Online On Purpose

It’s almost second nature to have some sort of an online presence. For some, that means keeping up with relatives and friends from a distance. For others, that could be that they are on it for a past time. Others use it for work or advertising. Truth is, most of us can easily fall into the trap of making social media more than it was ever supposed to be.

Social Media as Supplement for Real Life

For whatever reasons that we joined the online space, it probably started out small for us. Uploading a profile picture and a quick bio. Maybe we posted vacation pictures or started a blog to keep everyone up to date with their missions trip. But quickly, you may have noticed that you soon started putting more and more time and thought into what you were posting online.

Often times, as I have seen it constantly, social media use transforms into a consuming venture. At that, it becomes one with limited dividends. Which is where a lot of us find ourselves frustrated and not certain as to why.

Social Media – The Candle Stick that Became the Main Light Source

How many of us find ourselves scrolling to the bottom of the Facebook universe, searching for something insightful, entertaining, emotionally engaging and come up empty? I mean every day, if we aren’t careful, we fall into this cycle where we hope to find something that is revolutionary.

I believe that there is content out there that can be that, but we rely so much on chance when we look for it on Facebook or Insta. We become addicted to the hope of finding something that we can pass our time with. And it’s a hope that we can[t count on. All too often we scroll down and down, just to find the same video from yesterday.

Scripture Memorization Challenge – October 2016

It’s six days into the month and I’m giving myself 30 more to memorize ten Bible passages. Yes 10!

Why Memorize Scripture?

Information comes in handy. I’m a Barista at a local Starbucks, and from time to time a customer asks me a random, but in-depth question about the different components of a coffee’s flavor profile. Or they may ask what is the benefit to one brewing method over another method. These questions are quite technical and require special knowledge. Me spending time in my Coffee Master training, preparing for the to Continue Reading

What does Communion Do?

Communion lets us recognize two things about Jesus and therefore it also brings out of us, two other things. Two and two, easy.

Two Things Communion Tells Us about Jesus

We have these symbols, a piece of bread, and a cup of wine (juice), and Jesus himself tells us what these things are supposed to mean.

In Matthew Jesus tells us:
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body. That was broken for you.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

So we are recognizing the Continue Reading

Following that Counts – Followership

Leadership is all a-buzz in our western culture, unlike every before. Case studies, theories, biographies, and what have you are piling up on the shelf of every book rack across the West. Almost as quickly, in fact, they are leaving the shelves and dawning worn pages as they are read in our possession; we can’t get enough of them.

Leadership is a hot topic, and amongst all the hype, followership has been marginalized and even despised. And that leaves us in a sad state of affairs.

Following Well Means You:

  1. Follow leaders and organizations whose passions align with yours.
  2. Follow in such a way, that the best of your character is displayed and continually built.
  3. Follow to make a difference.

Reading: A Special Pain – How Reading’s Negative Stigmas, are Actually to Your Benefit

There is no doubt that reading is natural to some and completely unnatural to others. No doubt. In these contemporary times, Psychology has shown us that not everyone’s best way of learning is through books- or words even. Though, I believe modern Psychology is a little weak; weak in regards to that it often gives people permission to be weak and lazy. “I wasn’t born with that learning style,” “My mind just doesn’t work that way.”

Again, there are legitimate credences to those thoughts. My conviction is this though:

“For everyone; reading is a skill (a function) that can be mastered or left alone to die. It’s up to you the individual to see it’s worthwhileness and make it your own art.” Continue Reading
